U.S. Senate Passes Partial Birth Abortion Ban;
Bill Moves to U.S. House of Representatives - Immediate Action Needed

Today the Senate voted 64-33 to pass S. 3, the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act, the first time in seven years that the Senate has passed the ban without the threat of presidential veto. The bill moves next to the House of Representatives where it is expected to pass quickly. The House bill is H.R. 760. President Bush has vowed to sign it into law and applauded the vote.

"Partial-birth abortion is an abhorrent procedure that offends human dignity, and I commend the Senate for passing legislation to ban it," the President said."Today's action is an important step toward building a culture of life in America. I look forward to the House passing legislation and working with the Senate to resolve any differences so that I can sign legislation banning partial-birth abortion into law."

Both New Jersey United States Senators Corzine and Lautenberg voted against S.3.
