U.S. Senate May Vote on Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act the week of March 10, 2003 - Immediate Action Needed

The U. S. Senate may begin debate on S.3, The Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act sponsored by Senator Rick Santorum the week of March 10th.

The House may take action on the bill, H.R. 760 introduced by Rep. Steve Chabot before mid-April.

Rep. Steve Chabot graphically described partial birth abortion as follows: „ A physician delivers an unborn child&Mac226;s body until only the head remains inside the womb, punctures the back of the child&Mac226;s skull with a sharp instrument, and sucks the child&Mac226;s brains out before completing delivery of the dead infant."

Republican lawmakers expect President Bush to sign the bill into law before the Easter recess. In his January State of the Union speech, Bush named the bill as one of his top priorities.
